Karva Chauth History and Significance

There are no informative documents of how this festival came to be. Karva Chauth is said to have originated in mythological times according to certain Bhagwad Gita traditions. The most well-known story is that of Queen Veeravati. Her seven brothers deceived her into breaking her first Karva Chauth because of their devotion to her. Veeravati was heartbroken when she found out about her husband’s death after breaking the fast. She sobbed till a deity revealed her brothers’ deeds. She asked Veeravati to complete the procedure, compelling Yama to release her husband’s spirit.
